Amanda Seyfried's played her first lead role as Sophie in Mamma Mia! The Movie alongside Meryl Streep and Pierce Brosnan. Mamma Mia was Released in June in the UK and after almost four months has now become the highest grossing movie ever to be released here!
Mamma Mia was about a young woman (Amanda Seyfried) who tries to uncover the identity of her biological father by inviting the three likely men (Brosnan, Colin Firth, and Stellan Skarsgård), all former lovers of her mother (Meryl Streep), to her wedding on a Greek island. The groom is played by the dishy Dominic Cooper. Directed by Phyllida Lloyd, Mamma Mia has now made more money in the UK than Titanic, which held the previous record for ten years. The movie is based on the musical of the same name, and is full of songs by the 70s Swedish pop group ABBA.
23-year old Amanda Seyfried says she knew nothing about their music but now she's jiving with ABBA! "I own every single song now! And I definitely listen to them; it makes me happy. And it's actually pretty complex music, their chords and their rhythms and everything."
Before she became a model and actress, Amanda Seyfried had wanted to be a singer, training with a Broadway voice coach and singing in school plays. But at age 11 she got into modeling because of her second cousin, who was also a model, and also because it seemed like fun to her. Later her agency sent Amanda to TV and film auditions and that is how she got into acting. Seyfried's first big movie role was in the 2002 teen hit Mean Girls.

In one instant Seyfried recalls, "I was with my mom at a mall about a month after it [Mean Girls] came out, and these young boys came up to me and tried to hug me. I'm a pushover, so I sort of let them, then I realized they were being little perverts, slimeballs. They asked me for Hilary Duff's number — I guess they think everyone who's been in a teen movie hangs out together?"
Amanda Seyfried will appear in the movie Jennifer's Body with Megan Fox. The movie's producer Jason Reitman has said, "We've got Megan Fox and Amanda Seyfried getting into a fight in their underwear. That'll be fun."
But Amanda is not keen on wearing skimpy clothes and posing for men's magazines like skinny Megan Fox. "That is not something I will do because it takes your reputation, not to a bad place, but to a different place. But also I don't love my body. I have belly fat like everybody else, and I don’t want to be airbrushed on the cover of a magazine. I don’t want someone to swap out my stomach with a supermodel’s. I don’t want dirty old men looking at me in my underwear."
